Introduction

We want to share our experiences with you, whether you are waiting for a liver transplant, have already had a liver transplant, or perhaps want to increase your understanding of the gift of life that is organ donation.

Our Experiences

  • Bethli describes her life with Wilson's Disease, and what lead to her liver transplant in August 2000.  (March 2002)

  • Lyn writes of being Transplant recipient #87 in New Zealand, and how she dealt with her liver transplant in 2001.  (May 2005 - First published in North and South, May 2005, reprinted with permission)

  • Read Pam's story "Dancing through Life with a new Liver" as she tells how marvellous she feels now, 18 months post-transplant.  (April 2001)

  • John has been in the news in 1962 as a hero who saved four children from a blazing house fire as a teenager, then later as a recipient of a liver in an operation that saved his life.

  • Oliver is a young transplantee, who did a school assignment while in hospital in 2000.  This was to produce a newspaper's front page.  He did this on topics relating to Liver Transplantation.  Have a look!   In January 2001 Oliver was also featured in the NZ Herald.

  • Valerie and David Mother and son both had transplants for the same disease.  You may have seen Valerie's story in the Unichem Medical File, August 2000.  (Written February 2001)

  • After Roger was accepted early in December 2001 for the Liver Transplant Programme, "I found the hardest time for my caregiver and me was waiting, then finding out that when you thought you were first on the list, suddenly you were number three".

  •  Jane's story (April 1999) was profiled in the New Zealand Woman's Weekly, prior to her liver transplant.  She had a successful transplant and is still enjoying life today.

  • Here is Wayne's story.  He was transplanted in Brisbane, before the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit was opened.  (Written November 2000)
