Support Groups

Introduction

The New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit is coordinating support groups for liver recipients and prospective recipients, as well as caregivers, on a regular basis.  These take the form of group discussions, sometimes with guest speakers. Transplant recipients and those waiting have the opportunity to meet twice a month.  Caregivers can attend these, as well as their own specific groups once every two months.

The Liver Transplant Caregiver's Group

This is for caregivers and support people of liver transplant patients.  It offers a supportive environment in order to be able to share views, gain further information and also just listen to others' experiences.  Often the needs of caregivers and support people are different from those of liver transplant patients, and this is a forum especially to share the highlights and difficulties of the day-to-day experiences and stress of being a caregiver.  The groups are facilitated by the Liver Transplant Social Worker.

Forthcoming Groups:
2002: Please contact Ron Benjamin at the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit for information on this group.
